Our Town

Originally built to accommodate for the many workers employed at nearby mines, Karratha has developed into a busy centre of the Pilbara district, home to many local residents.

The town is situated in the heart of the Central Pilbara Coast with an abundance of islands, national parks and native bushland for residents and visitors to explore.

There is always something to do in the modern town centre, which provides a vast range of community services, including cultural, educational, medical, sporting, recreation and shopping facilities.

But it’s not just the locals that see the appeal of the area, the town is an investment hotspot for keen buyers looking to make some lucrative returns.

The Property Market - Looking to the Future

With the lifespan of Karratha’s major projects expecting to take another 30 or more years for completion, experts have predicted that housing demand should consistent.

Like most free markets, the price of housing is determined by demand. With demand remaining strong for the area, it expected that prices will continue to rise over the coming years making the purchase of an investment property in the area even more appealing.

The Local Council

The Karratha City Council (formally known as Roebourne Council) aims to revitalise and develop the area whilst ensuring heritage sites are protected.

The vision is aimed at turning Karratha into a modern, vibrant city with over 50,000 residents. The Karratha Revitalisation project will see the city centre infrastructure upgraded through a connected road network and creation of development sites intended for large projects such as hospitals and community centres.

Some major current projects include:
The Pilbara Underground Power Project (PUPP): A partnership between the State Government's Royalties for Regions Initiative and the Local Government, delivered by Horizon Power, the project aims to provide cyclone prone towns with safe underground power system networks.

Karratha Arts and Community Precinct:  Focused on community engagement, the council endeavors to create innovative, contemporary community facilities which reflect community needs both now and into the future.

Airport Upgrade: The upgrade aims to extend the life and improve the functionality of the existing airport terminal on the current site. The airport terminal upgrade will improve the aesthetics and customer experience at the terminal.
