Buying Checklist

  • Research: local areas and their facilities, recent sales prices, listing prices etc… make an informed decision on what area/s you would like to purchase in. Local real estate agents can give you this information.
  • Finance: speak to lender, determine the amount you can loan and which finance institution is your best and most cost effective option.
  • Search: sign up to receive email notifications of new listings, search through the weekend newspapers, visit home opens and/or ask an agent to help you look (Premium Membership).
  • Offer: once you have found the right house, put in an informed offer based on your earlier research. Your agent will also be able to help you with your offer by providing you market information. Make sure you are well informed and happy with everything in the agreement before you sign.
  • Acceptance: once your offer has been accepted, diarise the clause dates. Your agent will help organise anything outstanding such as pest inspections and finance approval. Employ a settlement agent, your agent will be able to refer a company.
  • Moving: organise your electricity, telephone, gas, internet and removalists once a settlement date has been confirmed and all contract clauses have been met.
  • Settlement: collect the keys from your agent, update your contents insurance and notify the relevant authorities of your change of address.
