With rising house prices and a challenging rental market, housing is set to be a key issue for voters in this weekend’s state election.
In the lead-up to the election, nearly 15,000 West Australians shared their concerns in a survey on reiwa.com, highlighting stamp duty as a major barrier to home ownership and downsizing.
REIWA has been actively engaging with political parties to advocate for policies that support an efficient and effective housing market. Key proposals include increasing the First Home Owner Rate of Duty thresholds to reflect rising property prices, further lifting the Home Buyer Assistance Account threshold, introducing a stamp duty concession for downsizers, and ensuring balanced rental reforms to maintain investor confidence.
REIWA’s platform also emphasises the need for more affordable rentals and social housing to support vulnerable tenants.
With a strong focus on housing from all political parties, we are pleased to see several of REIWA’s recommendations reflected in their proposed initiatives.
